This song is tribute to Bob Marley and all of the other freedom singers who have inspired me and many more to keep fighting for justice and singing of the world we wanna see. Yes, I "pirated" that guitar lick from Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" - one of the first songs I learned to play and sing on guitar.

Performed by Samara Jade (guitar, vocals), Megan Drollinger (fiddle), Craig Kellberg (bass) and Mattick Frick (drums)

lyrics

Song of freedom

Mr. Marley sang of freedom
Songs to redeem the wounded souls-
-a-million did believe him
And we’re still singing ‘em to guide us home

A single man with a single banjo
Pete Seeger could get a whole crowd to sing
for their rights and take a stand, oh
And ring out freedom on the bells that could ring

Chorus:
Are we ever had was the music
The songs to soothe and save our souls and set us free
And they can’t take that away and we can’t lose it
So will keep on singin’ until our voices find the key
Will keep on singing of the world we wanna see

Joni Mitchell sang of the garden
Got to get ourselves back from where we came
And out of the Devil’s bargain
Bins of hell is a mental state

John Lennon, he invited
The world to imagine how it could be
If everyone decided
To own no things and live in peace

Chorus

When all that tries to thrive is cut down
Locked up are the ones who try to save
the sinking ship of life now
But no one‘s free as long as there are slaves
of war, and slaves in prison
Slaves to the paycheck of minimum wage
(Wag)ing wars just to keep livin’
With an aching hope to break out of the cage

Chorus
